This exclusive protocol entails a set of clinical tests to measure the metabolism so as to prescribe a physical activity programme, a personalised diet and a series of treatments that promote energy expenditure and sensitive weight loss.

The excess of body fat is one of the main causes of cardiovascular and circulatory diseases, metabolic unbalance and hormonal offsets as well as psychiatric diseases linked to food intake. This problem has been increasing of about 30% in the last 15 years in the so called “industrialized countries”: genetic, social, cultural factors as well as inappropriate diets, loaded with fats, daily stress and reduced physical activities, are responsible for this increase.

Professor Francesco Canonaco, Medical Director of the Capri Beauty Farm, has been leading for years a team of qualified specialists in this field. He has developed an exclusive method for weight loss, using parameters and tests aimed to the resolution of all metabolic and excess weight problems. For the first time in Italy this has been achieved through the cooperation between a private, exclusive structure, the Capri Palace Hotel & Spa and a public, world known institution, the ICANS (International Centre for the Assessment of the Nutritional Status) of the University of Milan.

The program “Rational Nutrition – Metabolic Response” is finalized to the correct weight loss and the prescription of a right and personalized diet and physical activity program.

This exclusive program is accomplished through a set of clinical tests that allow the determination of a specific physical activity prescription and a personalized diet as well as a series of integrated treatments that promote energy expenditure and weight loss.

Procedure

After an initial analysis and food intake anamnesis, the following tests will be performed:
- Routine blood tests
- Indirect Calorimetry test, with Canopy, for the assessment of basal metabolic rate.
- Specific blood tests to calculate eventual cardiovascular risk and lack of vitamins: Vitamins A, B6, B12, E, folic acid and omocistein. These tests will be performed by the University of Milan, Human Nutrition Faculty, since they are extremely specific.
- Body impedentiometry to determine lean and fat body mass, intra and extra cellular water with the consequent quantification of water retention.
- Determination of alimentary intolerance.
- Measurement of energy expenditure and physical activity during the 24 hours, while performing normal activities with the new Armband, a small device worn on the triceps (upper arm) of the guest that records several parameters including energy consumption, physical activity and sleep, that are then downloaded on a PC and printed.
- Determination and prescription of a “starting” diet based on nutrients of biologic culture, followed by a “maintaining” diet.

These procedures will be matched with a set of specific therapies for the treatment of localized fat areas and cellulites such as LPG Endermologie, sessions of “slimming” Hydrofor, applications of purifying seaweed muds for weight loss in a steam bath. All these treatments are already part of the Capri Beauty Farm offering of exclusive therapies.

Our staff dietician will be able to clearly explain to the guest the results of the different clinical tests. Based on these last results and on the outcome of the first tests obtained at the beginning of the stay, she will then suggest a “maintaining” diet.
Dr. Grassi will also be able to setup meetings in the major Italian towns of Naples, Rome, Florence and Milan with the guests that wish to have a follow- up to verify the outcome of the diet and to eventually adjust it accordingly.
